About DEREK WILLE

Born in Japan, Derek Wille's life began on an international tour allowing him to experience life and music in global proportions.

 

His family settled in Maryland. Catching the “jazz bug” at twenty, Derek abandoned the local DC punk rock 80's movement and moved to LA where he received a Bachelors Degree in Music from California State University Northridge (C.S.U.N.).

 

He furthered his studies at the Dick Grove School of Music studying piano and jazz composition. He also attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood California and played in the big band at San Fernando Valley College. He has studied privately with Ron Elliston, Dick Grove, Otmaro Ruiz, Larry Willis, Richard Adams among others.

 

Learning and living music from inside the LA jazz scene, Derek experimented and developed an authentic musical voice. He has performed with such notable artists as Carly Simon, Cher, James Burton, 4-Play, Joe Jackson, Royal Crown Revue, Joao Mendonsa, Dave News, Upfront, Sound Connection, Cocktail Nuts, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Jazz BajHemians and Agave Blues.

 

In 1992, Derek moved back to DC and created Art of Music Studios in Alexandria VA and later, Art of Music MX in Rosarito, Mexico. He has worked in Advertising, Television, Film and Video Game Music for over 30 years. He now works directly with songwriters and composers.


Derek Wille is an internationally known recording artist. His compositions vary from punk rock/ jazz/ classical,
new age, world music, rock, funk, blues, electronica, hip hop and folk music, to his many soundtrack recordings.

 

Well known for his sensitive and introspective music, Derek Wille creates a catalogue of music that is diverse, heavy and haunting.
