Derek started this project as an exercise in the studio, recording different styles of music and experimenting with new recording techniques. It slowly progressed or 'di-gressed' into a full-blown album.
He first conceived all the songs at home on an IBM computer running Cakewalk 3.01, Encore 3.0 & Soundforge 4.0, then he painstakingly brought each musician in one at a time (due to scheduling conflicts) and put them in the mix piece by piece, replacing the parts he had written with their more organic and musical tracks. It seems odd that no two musicians played at the same time during this whole process.
Adhering to Mozart's first rule in music "Varience" and Ralph Waldo Emerson's " A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of idle minds...." Derek's new CD offers 15 styles of music satisfying those who hate to hear a 45 minute CD that sounds like one continuous song.
So all of you with short attention spans. Hang on, watch out for trees and let the boogie git' down in your socks.
