Derek's new album The Weight of the Sky is available on
ALL streaming platforms - January 5th, 2026
it is the culmination of nearly 50 years at the piano—exploring, l
earning, growing, and falling deeper in love with this instrument.
With this album, I wanted to capture the full emotional
and musical range of solo piano. The narrative is simple but
powerful: to take the listener on a journey through
many styles, moods, and moments—
some joyful, some reflective, some filled with love, longing,
and even the quiet questions we all carry about life’s purpose.
Each piece is its own little world.
Each melody opens a door to a different place in time, a different memory, a different feeling.
My hope is that this album becomes a soundtrack for your moments—whether you're driving, relaxing, working, or simply breathing in a quiet evening. Let the music sit with you, lift you, challenge you, comfort you… just as it did for me while creating it.

The Music: SLIPSTREAM is a collection of 10 songs that I wrote in 2 weeks of unbridled inspiration. Each song has a completely different feel in part due to my short attention span and my constant need for variance. Every song comes from the love of jazz music tempered with a bit of rock and pop.
